- Make sure to melt the caramels and cream all the way down. This took a good 30 minutes or so.
- To get 64 caramel squares I probably used 1.5 bags.
- They take forever to set (both caramel and chocolate). Probably 12-24 hours before you can cut them.
- Still tasted great a week later.
- HUGE hit with everyone!
64 caramel squares
1 cup heavy cream
1 1/2 cups butter, melted (I used unsalted)
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
2 cups flour
2 cups rolled oats
2 teaspoons baking soda
12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
Combine caramels and cream in a saucepan over low heat. Stir occasionally until smooth and set aside.
In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, and baking soda. Pat half of the oatmeal mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 9X13 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Pour caramel mixture over the chocolate. Crumble remaining oatmeal mixture over caramel. Return to the oven and bake an additional 15 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned. Cool completely allowing the caramel and chocolate to set before cutting.
